The patterns for the diesel items were made by Oscar Neubert, III for modifications of Atlas F-9 diesels. He created a FP-9 and added the speedometer hub and brake cylinders. He created the B unit from two A unit bodies. Noticing that he now had a surplus of trucks and motors, he put them to use in building a MP15AC, which won best of show at the Eugene, Oregon NMRA contest. The stanchions, door handles, headlight cluster and window washer blades were made for this model.
The headlight cluster was then added to several other locomotives such as GP-9 and, GP-35. The headlight also was used to modernize the headlight of steam locomotive GS-4.
Noting that the Southern Pacific upgraded some of its F-3’s to F-9m’s, Oscar modified the car bodies to show some of the original heritage of the F-3 with F-7 or F-9 modifications. These casting played an important part in the upgrading process.
